St. Mary's uses clutch free throws to hold off Tamaroa-St. Bruno at State

(Ina, Ill.) - Tamaroa-St. Bruno had their opportunities in Saturday's SIJHSAA Class S Girls Basketball State Quarterfinal matchup with St. Mary's (Mt. Vernon), but had a period of three minutes where they struggled offensively in the fourth quarter, and their season came to an end with a 43-33 loss at Rend Lake College.
The game was tied at 25-25 with 5:14 to play after Lily Tanner hit a jumper for the Lady Indians, but T-SB wouldn't score again until 2:17 to go.
Meanwhile, St. Mary's added three field goals including a three to take a seven point lead, and fought off the Lady Indians by hitting 9-of-12 free throws in the final two minutes of the contest.
St. Mary's led 11-10 after one quarter, 19-17 at halftime, and 25-23 at the end of the third period.
Tamaroa-St. Bruno was led in scoring by Tanner, who finished with 12 points. Jillian Shaneyfelt added 9 points, Grace Alongi 5, Molly Doerflein, Emily Ruppert and Chloe Eisenhauer each had 2, and Olivia Dill had 1.
