(Zeigler, Ill.) - The Junior Panthers struggled to handle the size of the Christopher Bearcats in Thursday's Class M Boys Basketball Regional championship game and saw their season come to an end with a 49-30 loss at Zeigler-Royalton Junior High School.
Christopher's two bigs combined for 36 of the team's 49 points and owned the glass at both ends of the court for the majority of the contest.
Pinckneyville District #50 kept pace for a quarter, getting three-pointers by Duke Riggins and Holden Clark, but were still trailing 15-12 at the end of one. The Bearcats took command in the second quarter, outscoring PJHS 10-4 to lead 25-16 at the half.
The Panthers continued to struggle offensively in the third quarter, putting up just six points as Christopher all but put the game away with a 13-point period.
Riggins scored 17 points to lead PJHS. Colten Loos (4 points), Clark (3), Bill Rainey (2) and Matthew Rohlfing (2) also scored for the Junior Panthers.
Pinckneyville had earned their spot in the championship with Wednesday night's victory over the Regional host, 47-34.
Riggins was the leading scorer then as well with 13 points, followed closely by Rainey and Loos each with 11. Rohlfing pitched in with 8 points, Gabe Paredes had 4 and Clark had 2.
