(Campbell Hill, Ill.) - In a game that went down to the wire, Pinckneyville Junior High School made enough of their free throws in the final minute to edge out Trico on the road Wednesday night, 47-42, behind a game-high 24 points from Duke Riggins.
Pinckneyville managed to stay out in front as the two teams traded buckets down the stretch, and as time ticked down, the Pioneers were forced to send the Junior Panthers to the free throw line to extend the ball game. Gabe Paredes sank two from the line with 24.7 seconds to go to make it 45-42, and Trico failed to put the ball in the basket the rest of the way against the PJHS defense. Riggins put the game away at the foul line with a pair of charity tosses with 4.8 seconds remaining.
Colten Loos joined Riggins in double figures with 12 points, Paredes had 6, Bill Rainey had 5.
PJHS (13-5) hosts cross-country rival Du Quoin on Thursday evening.
