Lady Panthers start conference season 3-0 by beating Nashville, A-J, Sparta

(Pinckneyville, Anna & Carbondale, Ill.) - Pinckneyville softball is off to a 3-0 start in conference play following Monday's 13-2 win at Nashville where Lauren Jackson, Mariah Clark and Kylee Kling all had home runs to lead the Lady Panthers past the Hornettes.
Clark was 2-for-3 at the plate and also got the win in the pitching circle, allowing just three hits to earn her fourth victory of the season.
"Mariah threw a great game again," said PCHS head coach Alan Engelhardt. "Lauren Jackson had the big three-run home run in the third that broke the game open. Kylee Kling added a two-run home run and Mariah Clark added a solo shot. I thought we hit the ball well up and down the lineup again with hits from seven of the nine spots."
In all, Pinckneyville (8-2) recorded 13 hits, two apiece from Clark, Jackson (3-3, HR, 3 RBI), Kling (2-5, 2 RBI, 2B, HR), and Josie Gleason (2-5, 4 RBI, 2B).
On Friday, April 6, PCHS won 6-1 at Carbondale, getting 3 RBIs from Gleason and another stellar effort in the circle by Clark, who allowed no earned runs on six hits and five walks with nine strikeouts.
Gleason doubled in a run in the top of the first, Megan Mayo doubled in a run in the second, and Gleason made it 3-0 in the third on a sacrifice fly.
After the Lady Terriers got a run back in the bottom of the sixth, PCHS put the game out of reach with three more in the top of the seventh on an RBI double by Gleason, a passed ball, and a sac fly by Emma Banach.
Mayo (2-3, RBI, 2B), Gleason (3-3, 3 RBI, 2 2B), Clark (2-2, 2 BB, 2B), Daisy Dudek (1-4) and Taylor Witges (2-4, 2 R, 2B) had hits for the Lady Panthers.
On Thursday, April 5, the Lady Panthers hosted Anna-Jonesboro and sent the Lady Wildcats home with a 13-1 drubbing that included 15 hits by Pinckneyville batters and only two by A-J. Kling and Hannah Dascotte each had home runs for PCHS.
Dudek (3-4, 3 R, RBI, 2B), Jackson (2-3, RBI), Kling (2-4, 2 R, 4 RBI, HR), Gleason (1-3, 2 RB I, BB), Witges (2-4, 2 R), Clark (3-4, 2 RBI, 2B), Dascotte (1-3, R, 2 RBI, HR) and Banach (1-3, R, RBI) all hit safely for the Lady Panthers at Anna-Jonesboro. Clark struck out ten and allowed two hits and no walks in the circle.
Last Wednesday, PCHS dismantled Sparta at home on 18 hits, 18-3. Dudek allowed four hits as the winning pitcher.
The top hitters for Pinckneyville included Dascotte (2-3, 3 RBI, HR, 2B), Clark (1-3, 2 RBI, HR), Dudek (2-2, RBI), Witges (3-3, 4 RBI, 2B), Gleason (2-3, RBI), Banach (1-2, 2 RBI, 2B), Jackson (2-3, RBI), Mayo (1-1, RBI), Lydia Pestka (1-1, RBI) and Kiya Hagene (2-2, RBI, 2B).
