(Pinckneyville, Ill.) - The Lady Panthers suffered their first loss of the year on Saturday, coughing up a 6-1 lead against Breese Mater Dei and falling 14-8. Pinckneyville was later able to bounce back in the afternoon game against Red Bud, pounding the Lady Musketeers 16-0 in five innings.
In the 10 a.m. morning matchup with Mater Dei, the Knights got on the board in the top of the first inning on a double, a passed ball, and a wild pitch. PCHS tied it in the bottom half when Daisy Dudek scored on an RBI single by Josie Gleason, who would belt a two-run homer during Pinckneyville's five-run second inning that put them on top 6-1. But the Lady Panthers' bats went silent for the next two innings, as six batters stepped to the plate, and all six were retired in order.
That set the stage for Mater Dei's comeback. Abby Brandmeier homered in the fourth to make it 6-2, then went deep again in the fifth for a three-run shot, part of a five-run inning that put the Knights up 7-6.
PCHS responded, tying the game on an RBI double by Emma Banach in the bottom of the fifth, then retook the lead in the sixth on a two-out RBI single by Mariah Clark. Pinckneyville, however, would strand the bases loaded after that with the score 8-7.

Mater Dei's offense exploded in the top of the seventh with seven runs on nine hits including a grand slam from Allison Beckmann.
Dudek (1-2, 3 R, 2 BB), Taylor Witges (1-3, R, SAC), Clark (2-3, 2 RBI, BB), Gleason (3-4, R, 3 RBI, HR) and Banach (1-4, RBI, 2B) had hits for PCHS against BMD. Witges took the pitching loss in relief of Clark.
The unfortunate victims of PCHS's bounce-back game were the Lady Musketeers, who mustered only a first-inning single off of Dudek while watching the Lady Panthers' offense knock the cover off the ball.
Clark and Gleason both hit grand slams and Kylee Kling added a 2-run shot - all in the FIRST inning, where Pinckneyville put it away with 14 runs.
  Dudek (2-2, 2 BB), Witges (2-3, 2 R), Clark (1-1, 2 R, 4 RBI, GS, BB), Gleason (1-2, R, 4 RBI, GS), Kling (3-4, 3 R, 2 RBI, HR, 2 2B), Banach (1-4, 2 R, RBI, 2B), Lynlee Linder (1-1, RBI) and Lauren Jackson (3-3, 2 RBI) all had hits in the blowout victory for the Lady Panthers.
