(Anna, Ill.) - The Lady Panthers had three players finish in double figures and held on for a big conference road win at Anna-Jonesboro on Thursday night, defeating the Lady Wildcats 52-47.
"I thought we did a nice job of battling through adversity tonight," said PCHS head coach Alan Engelhardt. "We didn't have any breaks go our way at all, but we really competed all night, fighting through the physicality and finding a way to win."
Pinckneyville led 13-9 after one quarter, 26-22 at the half, and 39-31 heading into the fourth period.
Megan Breslin led the scoring for PCHS with 17 points, Kenzie Rushing added 14, Kiya Hagene 13, Haleigh Kling 4, Sarah Breslin 2 and Payton Morgan 2.
"Megan Breslin came up huge for us tonight, stepping up with 17 points after sitting the entire second quarter when her ankle got dinged," Engelhardt said. "Kenzie Rushing did a good job of handling the ball with them beating on her all night and Kiya Hagene is starting to use her athleticism to create offense off the dribble in a very positive manner. And I thought Haliegh Kling did a tremendous job of competing and guarding. This was a nice team win and hopefully we can keep the momentum going as we wind up the regular season next week."
The Lady Panthers close out their regular season this week with Senior Night on Tuesday at home against Nashville, and a trip to Carterville on Thursday. They'll host their IHSA Class 2A Regional beginning on February 5, and will begin postseason play themselves on Tuesday, February 6 against Red Bud.
