(Pinckneyville, Ill.) - Pinckneyville put up 24 points in the first quarter of Tuesday night's home game with Sparta and kept their foot on the throttle throughout the contest, winning the SIRR Mississippi Division matchup 78-36.
The Lady Panthers shot 52% from the floor on 31-of-60 shooting, with Kenzie Rushing putting in 17 points on 8-of-13 from the field and 8-of-12 from the free throw line.
"The tempo was good for us tonight, getting up and down and allowing us to get into the paint," said PCHS head coach Alan Engelhardt. "Taylor Witges was big for us in the first half, scoring 13 of her points and hitting 3 threes against the zone. Kenzie Rushing and Megan Breslin combined to do the damage inside, combining for 30. I thought we shared the ball pretty well and got some pretty good looks all night."
Witges (14 points) and M. Breslin (12) were also in double figures for PCHS, Emmalee Chaney added 7, Kiya Hagene, Sarah Breslin and Bella Pasquino each had 5, Payton Morgan 4, Aubrey Bruns and Elaine Shaneyfelt both scored 3, and Haleigh Kling had 2. Pasquino led rebounds with 4, Rushing had a team-best 2 steals on defense.
Pinckneyville travels to West Frankfort on Saturday for the start of the Lady Redbirds' Mid-Winter Classic, taking on the host school at 5:00 p.m.
