(Pinckneyville, Ill.) - The Lady Panthers snapped a three-game losing streak on Thursday by defeating Murphysboro 53-41 in Pinckneyville with Kenzie Rushing (16 points) and Taylor Witges (11 points) both finishing in double figures in the victory.
"This was one that we really needed," said PCHS head coach Alan Engelhardt. "I thought we competed pretty well most of the game and made things difficult on them. Offensively, Kenzie Rushing did a nice job of getting into the paint to score and Taylor Witges knocked down 3 big threes when we needed them. But everything we do starts at the defensive end, and we did a pretty good job of preventing penetration and rebounding, and that won the game for us."
Pinckneyville outscored Murphy 15-8 in both the first and second quarters to lead 30-16 at the break. The Lady Devils closed the gap to 39-31 after three quarters, but PCHS had enough left to extend the lead back into double digits over the final eight minutes.
Megan Breslin (9 points), Haleigh Kling (7), Sarah Breslin (4), Bella Pasquino (4) and Elaine Shaneyfelt (2) also scored for Pinckneyville. Rushing led rebounding with 5, Kling led assists with 4, and M. Breslin had a team-high 3 steals on defense.
