Du Quoin Swimmer Paxton Higgerson signs with Hendrix College

On Thursday, May 3, Du Quoin High School senior Paxton Higgerson signed his national letter of intent to attend and compete in the sport of swimming at Hendrix College, a private liberal arts college in Conway, Arkansas. Higgerson has racked up several honors in the pool throughout his career, including an IHSA Sectional championship and state qualification this year in the 200 meter individual medley. He's also a 5-time Speedo Sectional qualifier, WYSE Sectional qualifier, and holds records for the Southern Illinois Swim League and Du Quoin Swimming Indians, for whom he has won two MVP awards. Higgerson is also a National Honor Society member, junior swim coach, lifeguard, volunteer coach for the Special Olympics, a recipient of at least one Foundation Scholarship, and the Du Quoin High School mascot, Chief Du Quoin.
