(Elkville, Ill.) - Elverado High School and the Lady Falcons basketball program hosted the Farmer Frenzy Tournament January 18-25 at EHS, and came away with a 1-3 mark in four games during the week.
Up first was a 52-41 defeat at the hands of Galatia. Elverado-Zeigler-Royalton had a 19-12 lead at the end of the opening quarter of action, but struggled mightily in the second period where they managed only 4 points. Abby Jeschke led E-Z-R with 16 points, Lainey Morris had 10, Emma Funk 6, Ella Pierce 4, Kelsey Knapp 3 and Miranda May 2. Funk had a team-best 8 rebounds in the game.
Up next, the Lady Falcons were bettered by the Lady Indians of Johnston City, 52-36. Again, E-Z-R had an early lead after one quarter, 12-9, but a horrendous second quarter - this time only 3 points - doomed their efforts. Funk (17), Jeschke (8), Morris (6), Pierce (2), Morgan Howell (2) and Knapp (1) all scored for the Falcons. Jeschke grabbed 7 rebounds.
While their third game of the tournament was their only victory, it was a satisfying one. After losing to Cobden twice already this season by just a few points each time, E-Z-R got the better of them this time 51-38 behind 19 points from Funk. Jeschke (13), Morris (10), Skylar Hudson (6), Pierce (2), and Howell (1) also scored for the Lady Falcons. Funk completed a double-double with 13 rebounds.
Wrapping up the event, E-Z-R fell to Webber Township, 57-51, despite 24 points from Funk. Jeschke (10) and Morris (10) were also in double figures for the Falcons, followed by Hudson (5) and Knapp (2).
