(Chester, Ill.) - The Lady Falcons wrapped up the Chester Mid-Winter Tournament on January 12 with a win over Valmeyer, 45-28, capping off a 1-2 showing at the event where they fell to Marissa-Coulterville and Cobden earlier in the tournament.

Elverado-Zeigler-Royalton mustered up only six points in the first half against Marissa on the way to a 54-21 defeat. Emma Funk and Lainey Morris both finished with 8 points to lead the Falcons, and Abby Jeschke (2), Morgan Howell (2) and Morgan Bernardini (1) also scored. Jeschke led rebounds with 6.

A heartbreaking defeat to Cobden followed, as E-Z-R led 27-24 at the half, but couldn’t hold on as the Appleknockers rallied back to win 53-50 behind a big 30-point night by Jenna Hartline. Hartline did major damage at the free throw line, where she was 10-of-13 for the game. The loss spoiled a 24-point effort by Morris, who led the Lady Falcons. Bernardini (11) and Jeschke (10) were also in double figures, and Funk added 5 points. Jeschke topped rebounds again with 8.

Funk’s 19 points led the way in the rout over Valmeyer, and Jeschke had 16 in a game the Falcons played without Morris. Skylar Hudson (5), Kelsey Knapp (3) and Emily Wisely (2) also scored for E-Z-R.
