Four-peat: Lady Falcons win volleyball Regional for fourth straight year

  (Vergennes, Ill.) - With straight-set victories over Desoto and St. Andrews, Elverado Junior High School claimed their fourth straight volleyball Regional championship on Tuesday night in Vergennes, and advances to this Saturday's SIJHSAA Class S State Finals in Herrin.
  The Lady Falcons first took out Desoto in the semifinals, winning 25-6, 25-10. Gracie Dowdy led EJHS in kills with 6, Reese Funk added 3. Morgan Bernardini had a team-high 5 aces and scored 21 points on her serve. Sydney Schenk, Emma Yates, Chloe Dent, Karlie Haynes and Micah Davis also saw action in Elverado's victory over Desoto.

  Against St. Andrews in the finals, Elverado built a big early lead and was never threatened, going on to win the match 25-10, 25-18 to improve their record on the season to 21-3 overall. Funk led kills with 5, Yates led assists with 5 and aces with 5, and Schenk had a team-high 2 digs. Bernardini, Dowdy, Dent, Haynes, Davis and Faith Godoyo also saw action for the Lady Falcons.
  EJHS will play at Herrin High School (which will be utilizing both gymnasiums) on Saturday at 10 a.m. against Valmeyer in round one of the State Finals Tournament. With a win, they'll play again in the quarterfinals at 2 p.m. Semifinal matches take place at 4:30 p.m. with the championship and third place game both set to start around 6 p.m.
