EJHS brings home first place at #204 Tourney

  (Pinckneyville, Ill.) - On August 10, the Elverado Junior High School softball team brought home the first place trophy from the Pinckneyville District #204 tournament with victories over Odin, and Pinckneyville District #50.

  The Lady Falcons trailed Odin 1-0 all the way up until the sixth inning, where they scored on an RBI single by Kennedy Morse, and an sacrifice by Maci Caraway. EJHS added two more in the seventh, getting an RBI single by pitcher Jaci Tuthill, who also got the victory. in the circle for the Lady Falcons, who went on to win 4-1 to advance.

  Against PJHS, runs were easier to come by for both teams, with Elverado ultimately pulling out an 11-8 victory. Top performers for the Lady Falcons in the championship game included Jaylen Marshall (2-4, 2B, 3B, SAC), Ellie Yates (2-4, 2 2B, BB), and Morse (3-5), whom all recorded at least three hits in the ball game.

  “It was nice to get off on the right foot to start the season," said EJHS head coach Jacob Emling. "The girls have been going hard in practice the last 2 weeks, and their efforts from practice showed today. We saw good competition today, and I am proud for the way they responded to it. They had a never quit mindset, and that really helped us through the day.”
