(Vergennes, Ill.) - Elverado Junior High School's boys basketball team was knocked out of the postseason in the Regional semifinals last week, falling 32-27 to St. Andrews after a slow start dug the Falcons into a hole early in the ball game.
Elverado was outscored 16-7 in the opening quarter, as St. Andrews pumped in three three-pointers to take control early. The Falcons trailed 20-12 at the half, then made their push to get back into it during the third quarter.
EJHS won the third period 12-6, getting 10 points in the frame from Joey Iaccino, and the lead was down to one heading to the fourth. But in the final quarter, the Falcons got a three from Iaccino and nothing else, allowing St. Andrews to escape with the win with a six-point period.
Elverado's season wrapped up with an overall record of 18-5. The Falcons were co-champions of their conference, won the St. Bruno Tournament, and placed third in the Giant City Tournament.
Scoring for EJHS in the Regional semifinal were Iaccino (18 points), Chase Buser (7) and Luke Derosett (2).
St. Andrews would later lose in double overtime in the Regional championship game against OLMC.
