(Vergennes, Ill.) - Elverado came out on top of a wild, high-energy, highly-contested boys junior high basketball game on Thursday night, slipping past Pinckneyville District #204 50-44 behind double-digit scoring efforts from Chase Buser (18 points) and Joey Iaccino (15 points).
The Tigers led most of the first half, thanks in part to 17 points in the first 12-plus minutes by Vaden Szczepanski. Unfortunately for #204, not only did Szczepanski lead the team in scoring, but also in personal fouls, picking up his fourth with 1:23 to go in the opening half with #204 up by six. He would remain on the bench until midway through the fourth period.

His absence was felt by the rest of the Tigers, as #204 managed just six points in the third quarter on a pair of three-pointers, one by Trey Moll, the other by Issac Teel. Meanwhile, the Falcons rallied back to take the lead, 35-34, heading into the final period.

Buser and Iaccino did all the scoring in the fourth for Elverado, with Buser hitting a pair of threes. Szczepanski got back into the game, but only momentarily before picking up a charging foul. The Falcons outscored #204 15-10 in the final quarter to come out on top.

Tristian Darnell (6 points), Luke Derosett (6) and Reed Funk (5) also scored for Elverado. Szczepanski (19), Moll (12), Dawson Wynn (6), Teel (3) and Dylan Schuetz (2) scored for the Tigers.
