(Norris City, Ill.) - Regional host Norris City-Omaha-Enfield closed the door on Elverado’s history-making 2018 volleyball campaign in Thursday’s championship, sweeping it in two sets by the score of 25-7, 25-14.

“You never want a great season to end, but we ran into a very tough opponent tonight,” said EHS head volleyball coach Donette Wheatley. “The girls played hard even though the scores don’t show it. Everything they set up was hammered to the floor. The second set, we came out strong and were within one at 13-14, causing them to call timeout. We missed the serve after that, a missed in-the-net call would have given it back to us, but they were just too big and too strong for us. We didn’t back down, we had several great digs and we ourselves, Allie Whittington, had some powerful hits.”

Whittington racked up 5 kills, Emma Funk added 3. Emma Yates led the Lady Falcons in digs with 3, followed by Whittington, Hayli Havens and Morgan Bernardini each with 2. Yates also led assists with 5.

The Lady Falcons finish the season with an overall record of 23-9 with a 8-0 conference championship in the SEC.

“I am very proud of what this team accomplished this year - a first ever conference championship, won the floater tournament, had a 15-game winning streak, and had the most wins in school history along with the best ever record. It was a great season and I am really going to miss this group of seniors. They did a great job leading the younger kids. It’s been a hell of a ride. Thanks, Falcon Volleyball Nation!”
