(Norris City, Ill.) - Allie Whittington had 8 kills and Morgan Bernardini dug out 9 as the Lady Falcons advanced into the Regional championship game at NCOE with a 25-19, 25-16 win over Thompsonville in the semifinal round on Monday night.
“We started off slow, I think we got behind 7-2, but we kept our composure, loosened up, and never looked back,” said Elverado head coach Donette Wheatley. “We were blocking their hard hits, digging their hard hits, and turning everything into offense. Morgan Bernardini did a heck of a job in the back row. The setters also spread the sets around to try to keep them off-balance and our hitters knew exactly what to do with the ball - hit when we should have, pushed it when we were able to, and we placed it in the holes like pros.”
Kaity Lewis finished with 4 kills, Emma Funk and Jessica Elson each had 3. Whittington added 7 digs and 3 blocks. Emma Yates led assists with 11.
The fourth-seeded Lady Falcons will take on top-seeded Norris City-Omaha-Enfield at 6 p.m. on Thursday, October 25 for the Regional championship. The winner moves on to the Thompsonville Sectional, beginning on Monday, October 29.
“We are definitely playing some great volleyball right now, I am super proud of my girls,” Wheatley said. “We will definitely have our hands full Thursday, but I believe it is a winnable match. We have got to play clean, no room for unforced errors.”
