(Elkville, Ill.) - Elverado finished off their varsity volleyball regular season on October 22 with a 25-19, 25-16 home win on Senior Night over visiting Johnston City.

“It was great to end the regular season on a winning note,” said EHS head volleyball coach Donette Wheatley. “We played very well tonight. We’ve got to work hard at these last few practices and continue to play team ball. This group knows how to win and we want it to continue through the postseason.”

Kaity Lewis led the Lady Falcons in kills with 6, Emma Funk had 4. Morgan Bernardini topped digs with 6, Emma Yates added 5. Bernardini and Yates each had 6 assists. E. Funk also had a team-high 3 blocks. The varsity squad finishes the regular season 21-9 overall, 8-0 in SEC play.

Elverado also took the win in the junior varsity match, 25-6, 25-23, getting 4 kills apiece from Reese Funk and Chloe Barnes. Bernardini, Faith Godoyo and Sydney Schenk each had 3 digs, and Schenk led assists with 7.

  R. Funk (3) and Macy Whitaker (4) combined for 7 kills in the freshmen match, won by EHS 25-19, 25-14. Schenk led digs in that match with 5.

The EHS freshmen team finished the year 4-2-1, and the JV wrapped up at 19-2 overall, one game better than last season’s 19-3 team.

“I want to thank all my parents for everything they have done for the team this season,” Wheatley added. “They are the ones who do all the work off the court and it is very much appreciated by the coaches and players.”
