(Johnston City, Ill.) - The Lady Falcons capped off a history-making regular season on Tuesday night with a thrilling three-set win at Johnston City, dominating the final two sets of a 22-25, 25-11, 25-8 victory.

“This was a great way to end the regular season, beating a Black Diamond 2A school,” said Elverado head coach Donette Wheatley. “We really played smart tonight. We knew when to hit, when to tip, and when to push the ball. We were finding the open spots on the door and we really frustrated them because they didn’t know what we were going to do next.”

Allie Whittington led the EHS offense with a dozen kills, and shared the team-high in digs (8) with Jessica Elson and Morgan Bernardini. Elson also had double-digit kills with 10, and Emma Funk added 8. Whittington led blocks with 4, Bernardini led service aces with 5, and Emma Yates led assists with 13.

The varsity team finished the regular season 22-8 with a perfect 8-0 record in conference play. They’ll be the #4 seed in their Sub-Sectional, and will take on #5 seed Thompsonville in the semifinals of the Norris City-Omaha-Enfield Regional on Tuesday, October 23 at 6:30 p.m. With a win, they’ll likely draw top-seeded NCOE in Thursday’s 6 p.m. championship.

“This team has really grown up to know what each other can do and the streak and finish prove it,” Wheatley said. “I’m very proud of all three levels, all finishing with great records. Proud is an understatement, I would do anything for any one of them, they’re like my family, my kids. It has been a fun, winning season, and I hope it continues next week.”

Elverado’s junior varsity team finished their season on a 16-game winning streak, defeating the Indians 25-15, 25-21 to improve to 19-3 overall. Hayli Havens and Abby Jeschke topped kills in the match with 4 apiece and Teigan Rury led digs with 7.

“These girls also had a great season,” Wheatley said. “Proud to have gotten to take the ride with them. Great group of kids.”

The Falcon freshmen also got a win to close out the season, winning 25-19, 25-20 behind 6 kills from Reese Funk and 5 digs from both Yates and Bernardini.

Elverado’s volleyball program finished the regular season with a record of 49-12 across all three levels.
