(Marion, Ill.) - Elverado volleyball accomplished another first on Thursday night, reaching the 20-win mark by defeating Crab Orchard in straight sets 25-13, 25-23 on the road. The Lady Falcons are now 20-8 overall on the year with two games remaining in the regular season.
“We had another good night,” said EHS coach Donette Wheatley. “We put them on the defensive the whole first set. We moved together really well tonight. We had some scrappy hustle plays and saves. We have improved our game tremendously over the season. This is really a great group of kids.”
Emma Funk had a team-high 5 kills, and Allie Whittington and Kaity Lewis each added 3. Morgan Bernardini topped digs with 5, followed by Whittington with 4. Whittington led blocks with 3.
Elverado slipped by the Trojans in the J-V match, 25-23, 25-23, improving to 17-3 overall on the year. Hayli Havens’ 5 kills were a team-best, and Gracie Dowdy, Chloe Barnes and Teigan Rury all had 4 digs.
The Lady Falcons are at home against Zeigler-Royalton on Monday and at Johnston City on Tuesday. They’ll begin the postseason in the Regional tournament on October 23 at NCOE.
