(Elkville, Ill.) - Though “Pink Out” Night at EHS was still an overall success, the varsity match itself saw visiting Okawville put an end to the Lady Falcons’ 15-game winning streak by squeaking out a three-set victory, 23-25, 25-22, 25-19.
“We played our guts out tonight,” said EHS head coach Donette Wheatley, “we just came up on the short end. They had us down 20-9 in the third set but we kept fighting. We had way too many unforced errors tonight. We haven’t had those kind of mistakes in a long time. I think we just tuckered out.”
“We had great fan support, parent support, and made our Pink Out Night a huge success. Even though we lost the match, we still won the night. Shout out to all the parents and girls for making it all possible. They did great.”
Elverado (19-8, 8-0) had not lost a varsity match since September 4.
Offensively, Allie Whittington (9), Emma Funk (8) and Jessica Elson (8) combined for 25 kills. Whittington led digs with a dozen, and Elson, Emma Yates and Morgan Bernardini all finished with 8 digs. Bernardini topped assists with 14, and Funk led blocks with 3.
The junior varsity match went to the Lady Falcons (16-3) in straight sets, 25-10, 25-22, with Abby Jeschke leading kills with 7 and Chloe Barnes leading digs with 4. EHS’s freshmen (7-1) also won, 25-14, 25-21, getting 6 kills from Gracie Dowdy and 5 digs from Bernardini.
