(Cobden, Ill.) - The Lady Falcons improved to 3-0 in conference play on September 19 with a road win at Cobden, knocking off the Appleknockers 25-19, 25-13 behind 6 kills apiece from Emma Funk and Hayli Havens. It marks the first time since joining the SEC that Elverado defeated Cobden twice in a season.

“It went back and forth the first set but the girls fought hard to pull out the win,” said EHS head volleyball coach Donette Wheatley. “Once we won that one, we got in their heads and came out strong in the second taking a 6-0 lead. We didn’t miss any serves the second set, and between the four sets we played tonight, we missed a total of six serves.”

Funk also led blocks with 5, and shared the team high in digs (5) with Morgan Bernardini. Emma Yates topped assists with 10. Kaity Lewis and Abby Jeschke each added 3 kills.

“Emma Funk had a great night at the net hitting and blocking. The teams played very well tonight. Everyone did their job as you can see by how balanced our stats were.”

The Falcons were also victorious at the junior varsity level, winning the match 25-22, 25-12. Faith Godoyo led the way in kills (6) and digs (8). The J-V Lady Falcons are now 8-1 overall on the year, 3-0 in conference matches.
