(Vergennes, Ill.) - For the first time since joining the SEC, Elverado knocked off Cobden in varsity volleyball on Tuesday night, dominating the match in straight sets 25-12, 25-16 for their eighth consecutive victory.

“Wow, was this a big win,” said EHS head coach Donette Wheatley. “The girls were fired up and ready to play. I’m so proud of these kids and how we’ve played these last several matches.”

“Kaity (Lewis) coming back tonight was huge, she contributed four kills and a block after having not played since the second match of the season. It was a great team effort. Morgan Cashion had four big serves late in the second set that gave us a huge boost. I hope each of them understand their role, they are all important to the team. I’ve never been prouder.”

Lewis was one behind Allie Whittington who led the Lady Falcons in kills with 5. Morgan Bernardini had a team-high 5 digs, while Whittington, Lewis and Jessica Elson each added 3. Emma Yates led assists with 5.

The victory propelled EHS’s varsity team to 4-0 in conference play, 12-7 overall on the season.

In the junior varsity match, the Falcons won in three, 22-25, 25-14, 15-5 with Hayli Havens, Raelyn Schoolcraft and Chloe Barnes each registering 3 kills. Havens also added a team-high 6 digs.

“Rough first set, then we played great the next two,” Wheatley said. “Kaity was released from the doctor just this morning so we tried her out the J-V game to get her warmed up for varsity. Schoolcraft came in the third set and helped spread the lead with four great serves and a heck of a save.”

Elverado’s freshmen were also victorious over the Appleknockers, 25-11, 25-13, behind 3 kills and 3 digs from Gracie Dowdy. Bernardini, Reese Funk and Karlie Haynes also had 3 digs for EHS.
