(Vergennes, Ill.) - Elverado inched closer to a .500 record on Tuesday night by squeaking past Egyptian on the road, 25-20, 25-22, getting a double-digit kill effort from Allie Whittington (10).
"We played a very scrappy Egyptian team, they are a much improved team from last year," said Elverado head coach Donette Wheatley. "Their middle had several blocks against us so we had to adjust our hitting strategy while she was in front.
Jessica Elson and Emma Funk also had big efforts on offense with 5 kills apiece. Elson led EHS (6-7, 2-0) in digs with 7, followed by Emma Yates with 6, and Whittington, Funk and Morgan Cashion each with 5. Yates had a team-high 13 assists, and Funk led service aces with 4.
"We played a ton of offense, putting the ball to the floor any way we could," Wheatley said. "Hayli Havens had crucial playing time and serves off the bench that helped win the second set. We have had to learn to adjust to each team and their playing styles. Good match tonight."
The J-V Falcons grabbed their fifth win of the season, defeating Egyptian 25-13, 25-11. Havens had 5 kills, Abby Jeschke had 5 digs, and Leia Bryant had 6 assists.
