(Vergennes, Ill.) - After losses to three tough opponents in their first three matches of the season, Elverado got their first victory on Tuesday night at home, sweeping both sets from Sesser-Valier-Waltonville 25-11, 25-14.
"Playing those first three matches has finally paid off," said Lady Falcons' head coach Donette Wheatley. "It was great to get in the win column. It was awesome to hear the kids say 'that was fun!"
"Our offense was on, the setters got the ball where it was supposed to be, and we had fun. It's a lot easier to stay up at night and total the stats after a win than it is a loss, because I can't wait to see how each player helped the team. It was a good night for the Falcons."
Helping out the offense with 7 kills was Emma Funk, followed by Jessica Elson with 5 and Allie Whittington with 3. Morgan Cashion and Morgan Bernardini led digs with 6 apiece, Funk led blocks with 2, and Teigan Rury finished with a team-high 5 assists.
The J-V Lady Falcons fell in three sets, 25-15, 11-25, 15-13. Chloe Barnes led kills with 4, Rury led digs with 8, and Leia Bryant topped assists with 6.
The EHS freshman team improved to 3-1 on the year with a 25-17, 25-23 victory behind 8 kills from Reese Funk, 4 digs from Bernardini, and 7 assists from Emma Yates.
