Elverado wins home volleyball opener in straight sets over Cobden

  (Elkville, Ill.) - Elverado was on their game in their home volleyball opener on August 27, whipping up on Cobden 25-18, 25-10 behind 7 kills from senior Emma Funk and 5 from fellow senior Hayli Havens.

  “We got started tonight and never quit until the game was over,” said EHS head volleyball coach Donette Wheatley. “We played very well. The girls really hustled, they never quit moving on the floor.”

  Kaity Lewis (3) and Abby Jeschke (2) also had kills against the Appleknockers. Havens and Morgan Bernardini led the way in digs with 4 apiece. Emma Yates topped assists with 10.

  “I hope we continue to play at the level we have played the last two nights,” Wheatley said. “We have to keep turning our defense into offense and playing smart. I’ very proud of the team and their efforts!”

  The Lady Falcons also took the win in the J-V match, 18-25, 25-6, 15-7. Raelyn Schoolcraft, Faith Godoyo and Macy Whitaker each had 5 kills, and Bernardini, Yates and Reese Funk each had 3 digs. 

  Elverado is 1-1 at the varsity level, 2-0 for junior varsity.
