(Vergennes, Ill.) - Another bigger school got the better of Elverado in their home volleyball opener on Monday in Vergennes, as Sparta took home a straight-set win, 25-17, 25-21 in the varsity match. The loss dropped the Lady Falcons to 0-3 on the season against a tough schedule.
"We can't get frustrated with our record," said EHS head coach Donette Wheatley. "We are competing with these bigger schools and it can only make us better. We had way too many unforced errors tonight, yet we battled back and didn't quit. Kaity Lewis is out right now, she had surgery (on Monday), so we are losing some strong hitting at the net. We just have to forget about our record and concentrate on playing our game."
Emma Funk led Elverado in kills with 5, Allie Whittington added 3. Funk, Teigan Rury and Morgan Cashion each finished with 4 digs. Rury and Emma Yates shared the team lead in assists with 3.
The Lady Falcons' junior varsity team picked up their second win of the year, defeating the Bulldogs 25-20, 25-23. Hayli Havens had a team-high 4 kills, and was one of four players with 3 digs along with Rury, Abby Jeschke and Chloe Barnes.
The EHS freshmen also won for the second time, 25-12, 25-13. Yates had 3 kills, and Morgan Bernardini, Gracie Dowdy and Sydney Schenk all had 5 digs.
