(Murphysboro, Ill.) - The Lady Falcons saw quite possibly the best team on their schedule last Thursday at Murphysboro, falling to the Lady Red Devils 25-16, 25-11 in the varsity matchup.
"We competed, we gave it our best shot," said EHS head coach Donette Wheatley. "They are in a different league than us. We had some great digs that we turned into offense, but man, they had us on the defensive most of the night. We played hard, we never got intimidated, and we gave it our best shot. I was very proud of our effort and games like these are only going to make us better."
Allie Whittington had a team-high 4 kills, Kaity Lewis led digs with 4, and Emma Yates had 4 assists. Jessica Elson added 3 kills, and Morgan Cashion and Morgan Bernardini each chipped in with 3 digs.
Elverado fared better in the J-V and freshmen matches, but failed to escape with a victory in either. The junior varsity Red Devils secured a straight-set win over the Lady Falcons, 25-20, 25-17. Chloe Barnes led EHS in kills with 5, and shared the team lead in digs at 5 with Bernardini.
Elverado's freshmen squad took last school year's Class L state winners to three sets, but Murphy held on to win it 26-24, 24-26, 15-7. Gracie Dowdy recorded 7 kills for the Falcons, and joined Bernardini in double-digit digs with 10 apiece.
