(Woodlawn, Ill.) - For just the third time all season long, the Lady Falcons tasted defeat on May 9 at Woodlawn, falling to the Cardinals 13-6. Seven errors contributed to six unearned runs against EHS starting pitcher Emma Funk.

“Emma Funk threw a pretty good game, she just didn't get help in the field,” said Elverado head softball coach Donette Wheatley. “We had seven errors and it absolutely killed us. Can't complain about our hitting though, we are still hitting the ball hard up and down the lineup. We didn't want them to see (pitcher) Allie (Whittington) in case we meet up with them down the road in the tournament.”

The Falcons took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first on an RBI single by Emma Yates, but the Cardinals responded with four in the first, all of which were unearned after three errors by the EHS defense.

Down 5-1 heading to the third, Elverado fought to tie the game at 5-5 with RBIs by Yates, Kaity Lewis, and Reese Funk, only to see Woodlawn strike right back in the bottom of the inning with two runs on four hits to go up 7-5.

Woodlawn tacked on another in the fourth, two more in the fifth, and three more in the sixth before E. Funk added a solo homer in the seventh for Elverado’s final run.

  E. Funk (1-4, R, RBI, HR), Whittington (3-4, 2 R), Yates (2-4, R, 2 RBI), Lewis (1-3, R, 2 RBI), R. Funk (2-3, RBI), Morgan Bernardini (1-3, 2B, BB), Chloe Barnes (1-3, R, BB) and Sydney Schenk (1-3) had hits for the Lady Falcons.
