(Waltonville, Ill.) - On May 8, the Lady Falcons piled up 13 hits and knocked off Waltonville 8-1 on the road with help from a three-run homer by Emma Yates in the top of the fifth inning.

“Probably the best game we've played all season,” said EHS head softball coach Donette Wheatley. “We were very selective on hitting the pitch that suited each player. We had zero strikeouts. The hits that were outs were hit hard, just right at someone.”

“Defensively, we played solid. We didn't have any errors. It was a great team effort, the girls just seemed to play relaxed. (Assistant Coach) Greg (Whittington) adjusted some of the players hitting, which included Emma Yates, and it paid off with her hitting a bomb! Great day to be a Falcon!”

Chloe Barnes walked and later scored on a passed ball for the game’s first run in the top of the second inning, but Waltonville battled right back with a run in the bottom half on a single, a sacrifice, and another single, tying the score at 1-1. Elverado pitcher Allie Whittington would get stronger as the game progressed, allowing just two hits the rest of the way and finishing with one earned run allowed on four hits and three walks.

Still at 1-1 in the top of the fifth, the Lady Falcons created some separation on the scoreboard with a big two-out rally. First Whittington doubled in Emma Funk (double), then Barnes walked to set up Yates’ three-run bomb that made it 5-1.

An inning later, EHS added some more insurance with RBIs from Barnes (single) and Lewis (single) and Morgan Bernardini (sac fly).

  Funk (3-5, 2 R, 2 2B), Whittington (1-2, 2 R, RBI, 2 BB), Barnes (1-2, 2 R, RBI, 2 BB), Yates (2-3, R, 3 RBI, HR, SAC), Lewis (3-3, RBI, BB) and Sydney Schenk (3-4, R) hit safely for the Falcons at Waltonville.
