(Vergennes & Benton, Ill.) - A win over Shawnee on April 25 gave the Elverado Lady Falcons a 10-game winning streak on the softball diamond, but the Rangerettes spoiled the party three days later by shutting out EHS 4-0 in Benton.
Pitcher Allie Whittington was nearly flawless in the 11-0, five-inning rout of Shawnee, allowing just one hit and sending 13 batters down via the strikeout.
Offensively, EHS took care of business early, plating all 11 runs in the bottom of the first inning. The big rally included RBIs from Kaity Lewis (single, three-run triple), Whittington (single), Elizabeth Schafer (two-run single), Tori Ehlers (bases-loaded walk), Leia Bryant (single) and Morgan Cashion (two-run single).
"We got our runs early, then let the girls hit, but didn't run the score up," said EHS head coach Donette Wheatley. "Allie shut them down at the plate, game over."
  Lewis (3-4, 2 R, 4 RBI, 3B), Whittington (1-2, 2 R, RBI, HBP), Schafer (2-2, R, 2 RBI, BB), Cashion (1-2, R, 2 RBI, BB), Bryant (1-2, R, RBI, HBP), Emma Funk (2-4, R, 2B) and Zoe Maple (2-2, R, BB) each had hits for Elverado against Shawnee.

Whittington was sharp against Benton as well, but the offense couldn't get the hard-throwing right-hander any support, as the Rangerettes put an end to the EHS winning streak with a 4-0 home win.
"They strung a couple hits together with our two errors and won the game," Wheatley said. "They only had six hits to our four, but ours were one an inning. We just couldn't manage to get any runners across the plate. We have to learn to drive the ball to right field instead of trying to pull everything."
Benton got a run in the third on a walk and an error, two in the fourth on three singles, and one more in the fifth on a double and a single.
Elverado, meanwhile, scattered four singles in the third, fifth, sixth and seventh, failing to get a runner past second base in the game. Funk (1-3), Cashion (1-3), Bryant (1-2) and Chloe Barnes (1-3) had the Lady Falcons hits.

Elverado 2, Cobden 0 (April 17, 2018):
Whittington allowed just one hit and one walk and fanned 16 Appleknockers in the win. An RBI single by Lewis in the first, and an RBI single by Lively in the fourth gave the Lady Falcons their runs. Hitting for EHS were Funk (2-3, R), Lewis (1-3, RBI), Lively (1-2, RBI, HBP), and Barnes (1-3).

Elverado 7, Johnston City 2 (April 18, 2018):
A big first inning gave Whittington all the run support she would need, as Lewis and Barnes both went deep in their first plate appearance for Elverado in a four-run rally. Schafer and Lewis would tack on RBIs later on in the game. The Lady Falcons eight hits came from Funk (1-4, R), Lewis (2-4, R, 2 RBI, HR), Whittington (1-3, 2 R, HBP), Lively (2-3, 2 R, BB), Schafer (1-4, RBI) and Barnes (1-3, R, 3 RBI, HR).

Elverado 15, Wayne City 1 (April 19, 2018):

Whittington didn't allow a hit, surrendering just one unearned run in the five-inning short-game win for EHS.  Funk (1-2, 3 R, RBI, BB, HBP), Lewis (2-4, 3 R, 2 RBI), Whittington (4-4, 3 R, 4 RBI, 2 3B), Schafer (1-3, R, 2 RBI), Cashion (1-3, R) and Ehlers (1-3, R, 2 RBI, 3B) had hits for the Lady Falcons.
