(Vergennes, Ill.) - Emma Funk and Morgan Bernardini each had three hits, and Allie Whittington continued to shut down opponents in the pitching circle as the Lady Falcons shut out Vienna 6-0 on April 22 in Vergennes. Whittington gave up just one hit and one walk and struck out thirteen batters, picking up her 15th win of the season.

“We didn't play sharp today,” said Elverado head coach Donette Wheatley. “Our enthusiasm was lacking it seemed from be off over spring break; two rain outs and a practice in the gym. We hit the ball pretty well up and down the lineup, I just wish the spunky team had played. That team is fun to watch! Don't get me wrong, a win is a win; I just want them to be sharp every game.”

A five-run rally got the Falcons ahead to stay in the bottom of the second inning. Kaity Lewis led off with a single, and after Zoe Maple reached on a fielder’s choice, and Reese Funk reached on an error, Sydney Schenk drove in a pair with a single. E. Funk followed with another two-run base hit, and Bernardini made it 5-0 with a third consecutive single for EHS.

  E. Funk capped off the scoring with a solo homer to start the bottom of the fourth.

  E. Funk (3-4, 2 R, 3 RBI, HR), Bernardini (3-4, RBI), Whittington (1-3, HBP), Lewis (1-3, R), R. Funk (2-3, R), Schenk (1-3, R, 2 RBI) and Emma Yates (1-3) had Elverado’s ten hits on the day.
