(Vergennes, Ill.) - Four different Lady Falcons had a two-hit game and pitcher Allie Whittington allowed just two hits as EHS slugged their way to a 7-0 home win over Cobden on April 16.

“We hit the ball hard tonight, but we left too many runners on base,” said Elverado softball head coach Donette Wheatley. “We left the bases loaded with only one out. But we also got some timely hits to score a few runs. Either way you look at it, we hit the ball. Allie didn’t allow a base runner until the fifth and only gave up two hits, both in the seventh. We are adjusting to the pitchers a tad bit better also. These girls are doing a great job.”

The offense started things off fast for EHS, as Emma Yates smacked a two-out, two-run base hit in the bottom of the first inning. An inning later, Emma Funk drove in a run with her two-out single, making it 3-0.

Kaity Lewis added to the lead with an RBI single in the bottom of the third inning, then Zoe Maple (fielder’s choice) and Funk (two-run single) added more insurance for the Lady Falcons in the fifth.

Whittington allowed only three base runners - two hits and a walk - while fanning fifteen batters on the day. With 6 no-hit innings, Whittington completed a stretch of 17 innings across three games where she did not allow a single hit.

Funk (2-4, 3 RBI), Yates (2-4, 2 R, RBI), Morgan Bernardini (2-4, R, 2B) and Chloe Barnes (2-4) each had two hits. Whittington (1-4, R), Lewis (1-2, R, RBI, BB) and Sydney Schenk (1-2, R) also hit safely against the Appleknockers.
