(Chester, Ill.) - EHS’s Allie Whittington recorded another shutout in the pitching circle on April 8 at Chester, shutting down the Yellow Jackets in a 4-0 victory for the Lady Falcons.

“We have to hit the ball better,” said Elverado coach Donette Wheatley. “Everything we hit is going up. Almost half of our AB's went in the air, that's an easy out. We played a solid game defensively and Allie did another good job on the mound, we just have to quit swinging up.”

Whittington pitched out of a jam on three separate occasions during the ball game. In the bottom of the first inning, the Jackets started off with a double and a sacrifice, but Whittington fanned the next two batters to end the threat.

In the third, the number 8 and 9 hitters in the Chester lineup started the inning with singles, but Whittington got a fly ball and two more strikeouts (part of a string of six consecutive K’s).

The right-hander, who earned her tenth victory of the season with four hits and a walk allowed with eleven total strikeouts, then stranded two more runners in the fifth with another strikeout.

The Falcons got on the board in the top of the fourth after a double by Whittington, who later scored on a passed ball. Zoe Maple made it 2-0 with an RBI single to bring in Chloe Barnes, who walked.

An inning later, Whittington drove in Emma Funk (double) with an RBI single, and Barnes would add another run in the sixth with a solo homer.

“Chloe added an insurance run in the 6th that was simply a bomb. She has a lot of power when she connects. We have to do a better job of adjusting to the pitcher no matter who it is we play.”

Funk (1-3, R, 2B, BB), Whittington (2-3, R, RBI, 2B, BB), Barnes (1-2, 2 R, RBI, HR), Maple (1-3, RBI) and Morgan Bernardini (1-4) had hits for Elverado.
