(Vergennes, Ill.) - Allie Whittington had one of the best pitching performances of her stellar softball career on Monday, March 18, tossing a one-hitter with a whopping 19 strikeouts as the Class 1A Lady Falcons knocked off Class 2A River-to-River Conference school Anna-Jonesboro 2-0 in Vergennes.

“Allie had a great game getting 20 of the 21 outs herself,” said EHS head coach Donette Wheatley. “We didn't hit the ball as well as I would have liked, but we mustered up a few together in the fourth to get a few runs. Fortunately for us that's all it took to win with Allie's performance in the circle.”

Elverado broke a scoreless tie in the bottom of the fourth inning when Chloe Barnes singled with one out and scored on a passed ball following another base hit by Morgan Cashion. With two outs, Emma Funk gave EHS a 2-0 lead with an RBI double to complete the scoring.

Funk (2-3, RBI, 2B), Barnes (1-3, R), Cashion (2-3, R) and Zoe Maple (1-2) had the Falcons six hits off the Wildcats. Whittington allowed a hit and a walk, both in the fourth inning, but struck out the side to get out of the only jam she was in.
