(Elkville, Ill.) - The Lady Falcons got in the win column on Monday night, outscoring Trico 19-10 in the final period to come away with a 53-45 home victory over the Lady Pioneers.
Seniors Allie Whittington (21 points) and Brianna Tuthill (16 points) combined for 37 of the team’s 53 points, and each had key free throws down the stretch to keep Elverado in front. The pair made 12-of-13 free throws in the fourth quarter.
Whittington gave the Lady Falcons the lead with 2:49 to go, scoring on a drive to the bucket and completing the three-point play at the line to make it 44-43 in favor of EHS, a lead they would not relinquish.
Emma Funk added 8 points and Chloe Barnes and Abby Jeschke each finished with 4 points. Emma Yates and Morgan Cashion also saw playing time for EHS in the win over Trico.
The victory snapped a four-game losing streak to start the season for the Lady Falcons. Prior to Monday’s game, their most recent result was a 61-48 home loss to Steeleville on Saturday.
Whittington had a season-high 28 points, but EHS managed only three points in the first quarter and were never able to recover. Barnes added 7 points, Jeschke 5, and Funk and Tuthill each had 4.
The Lady Falcons are in action again on Thursday at home against Joppa.
