Lady Falcons overcome sluggish first half to advance to Regional championship

(Cobden, Ill.) - An abysmal first half didn't stop the Lady Falcons from advancing into the championship game of their IHSA Class A Regional at Cobdon, as Elverado outscored Marissa 30-13 after the break to go on to win the semifinal contest 40-28.
EHS made only two field goals in the entire first half, but a 6-for-7 performance at the free throw line kept them in the game down 15-10 through two quarters of action.
Elverado came to life in the third quarter, where Allie Whittington scored 9 of her game-high 15 points, and the Lady Falcons put up 18 points to the Meteors' 5 to vault into the lead 28-20.
In the final frame, Hannah Alstat carried the load for EHS with 6 points, making 4-of-4 at the line to help the Falcons finish off Marissa and earn their spot in the championship agaisnt Regional host Cobden on Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
Alstat joined Whittington in double figures with 10 points, Tori Ehlers added 9, and Emma Funk had 6.
