(Elkville, Ill.) - The Lady Falcons split a pair of home games last week, defeating Egyptians 72-39 on Tuesday, then falling in a nail-biter to Steeleville on Thursday, 50-45.
Elverado was in control from the opening tip against the Pharaohs, with Allie Whittington scoring 11 of her game-high 21 points in the first period where EHS built a 20-6 advantage. By halftime, the lead had ballooned to 20 at 38-18, and coach Jeremy Pierce's bench got some big minutes in the second half as the Lady Falcons coasted home to the convincing victory.
Hannah Alstat (16 points) and Emma Funk (12) joined Whittington in double figures. Brianna Tuthill and Tori Ehlers each added 8 points, Abby Jeschke had 4, and Chloe Barnes finished with 3. Whittington (10 rebounds), Funk (12 rebounds) and Alstat (10 assists) each had a double-double in the ball game for EHS.
Two nights later, the Lady Falcons had the Lady Warriors where they wanted them at halftime up 24-14. Whittington, Ehlers and Funk combined for 22 of EHS's first-half points.
But Steeleville dominated the third quarter, winning it 21-11, then Karly Kothe scored 7 of her team-high 20 points in the fourth where the Lady Warriors completed the comeback.
Whittington led Elverado with 23 points, Alstat added 10, Ehlers and Funk each had 6.
The Lady Falcons' regular season finale takes place at home on Wednesday against Shawnee. They'll then begin postseason action on February 6 as the No. 3 seed at the Cobden Regional, taking on Marissa at 7:30 p.m. in the semifinal round.
