(Chester, Ill.) - The Lady Falcons' seven-game winning streak came to an end with consecutive losses to close out the Lady Jackets Mid-Winter Tournament  this past weekend, as Elverado fell 36-18 to New Athens on Friday and 49-41 to the event host Chester in the third place game on Saturday.
It was a rare off-night shooting the basketball for Elverado against New Athens, particularly leading scorer Allie Whittington, who failed to make a field goal, scoring all 3 of her points at the free throw line. Tori Ehlers was the only Lady Falcon in double figures, scoring 10 points. Hannah Alstat (3 points) and Brianna Tuthill (2) also scored for EHS.
The offense was back on track against Chester - but only for three quarters. Elverado took a 37-31 lead into the final period of play where the Lady Jackets erupted for 18 points to EHS's 4. Whittington (17 points), Ehlers (14), Emma Funk (6) and Alstat (4) scored for the Lady Falcons against Chester.
The two losses leave Elverado at 7-5 overall heading into Monday night's key conference showdown at Cobden with the Appleknockers.
