(Elkville, Ill.) - Elverado broke out of a six-game losing streak on Thursday night with a 58-44 victory over Zeigler-Royalton in Elkville. The Falcons put up 20 points in the opening quarter, and led throughout the remainder of the ball game.
Three Elverado players had big nights on the offensive end of the court, with Aquntez Penn and Dawson White both putting in 17 points, and Sam Alstat scoring 16. Trey Bernardini and Isaac Floyd each added 4 points for the Falcons.
“We shared the ball well tonight, and that shows in our balanced scoring," said EHS head coach Jacob Emling. "Aquntez created for us off the dribble and Sam and Dawson both hit shots throughout the game. Trey scored when the opportunity arose and played great minutes on defense. Isaac and Avery both gave us really good minutes on defense as well."
"Fortunately we jumped out to a big lead and that was enough for us to hold on the rest of the way. We can’t trade buckets like we did all game though, we have to find a few more ways to come up with some big stops on defense. I’m proud of the kids for responding after a tough stretch of games lately."
The Falcons next take the floor on Tuesday at Agape Christian, then they'll participate in the Egyptian Mid-Winter Tournament beginning on January 16.
