Stranded runners cost EHS at Goreville; Falcons take a beating vs. Steeleville

  (Goreville & Dowell, Ill.) - On April 1, Elverado fell 7-2 at Goreville despite out-hitting the Blackcats 10-9. The Falcons left a whopping 13 runners on base in the ball game.

  EHS took a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning on a two-out, two-run double by Hunter McRoy, but couldn’t scrape across any other runs the rest of the afternoon.

  Goreville immediately struck back with three runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead, which they never relinquished, scoring on RBI hits from Landon Albright, Trent Glidewell and Logan Hankins.

  Blaine Morse took the loss for the Falcons, allowing six runs on seven hits and a walk with four strikeouts in four and two-thirds innings of work. McRoy relieved for an inning and a third, allowing two hits with one K.

  Hits for Elverado came from McRoy (2-4, 2 RBI, 2B), Chase Buser (1-4), Tanner Shread (1-2, R), Trey Bernardini (1-4), Samuel Alstat (2-3), Clayton Tripp-Reams (2-4) and Jessie Shread (1-3).

  Hankins (3-3, R, 2 RBI, 2 2B) and Payton Miller (3-4, 2 R) each had three-hit games at the dish for Goreville.

  The following day, the Falcons had just one hit - a single by McRoy (1-2) in a 17-0 five-inning loss at home against Steeleville.
