(Dowell & Zeigler, Ill.) - The Falcons were able to put up some offense, but couldn't stop Chester from pulling away late in Monday's 18-7 victory for the Yellow Jackets in Dowell.
Nick Meyer, Curt Meyer and Ethen Eggemeyer all singled to start a four-run first inning for Chester. Those same three players reached base again in the second inning where the Yellow Jackets tacked on three more, and again in the third when another pair of runs crossed, making it 9-0.
Elverado's bats woke up in the bottom of the inning where Zach Absher, Avery Caraker and Trey Bernardini all singled in front of a double by Blaine Morse, cutting the lead to 9-3. George Shread, Hunter McRoy and Clayton Tripp-Reams each had a hit in the Falcons' three-run fourth inning, and the lead was down to 9-6.
Chester maintained a lead throughout, however, adding three in the fifth and six in the seventh to prevent any late-inning heroics by Elverado.
Caraker (2-4), Bernardini (1-4), Morse (2-4, 2 2B), G. Shread (2-3, 2B), McRoy (1-3), Tripp-Reams (1-2, BB), Absher (1-3) and Andrew Thomas (1-4) each hit safely for EHS.
On April 5, the Falcons traveled to Z-R-C where they couldn't do anything offensively, managing only five base runners in the 7-0 defeat. Caraker (1-3), G. Shread (1-3) and Tanner Shread (1-3) had the only hits for Elverado against the Tornadoes.
