(Red Bud, Ill.) - Elverado senior Blaine Morse threw the ball well, but a lack of timely hitting by the offense coupled with a 7-spot on the scoreboard for the Musketeers in the bottom of the sixth inning meant the Falcons dropped their opening day contest at Red Bud 10-3 last Friday.

EHS took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second after a single by Reed Funk, a fielder’s choice by Clayton Tripp-Reams, and an RBI double by Jessie Shread that Brough in Tripp-Reams.

But Red Bud would score in four straight innings, starting with a run in the third, fourth, and fifth, before exploding for seven in the sixth off of reliever Zachary Absher.

Elverado chipped away two runs in the top of the seventh on RBIs by Trey Bernardini and Absher, but it was too little, too late.

Bernardini (2-4, RBI), Morse (1-2), Funk (1-3), J. Shread (1-3, R, RBI), Chase Buser (1-4, R), and Tyler Martin (1-3) had the Falcons’ hits.
