Lady Warriors defeat Ewing to move to 5-0

(Du Quoin, Ill.) - Du Quoin Middle School volleyball won their fifth match in a row to start the season on Wednesday night at home, defeating Ewing in straight sets by the score of 25-14, 25-21.
Loveleen Dunklin and Ayanna Dunklin shared the team lead in kills for the night with 4 apiece, and Lauren Heape added 3 kills. Sophie Miller lead DMS in service aces with 8 and assists with 5, Heape and Lexi Cobin led digs with 4 each.
The Lady Warriors started their season on February 5 with a 25-19, 25-14 victory at home over Pinckneyville Junior High School. They hosted Trico the following night, and won that match 25-11, 25-10. DMS hit the road for the next two games, a 25-8, 25-12 win at Casey (Mt. Vernon) on February 7, and a 25-18, 25-13 win at Chester on February 8.
Ayanna Dunklin had 29 kills through those first four matches, and Loveleen Dunklin had 16. Cobin was the digs leader through four games with 7, and also topped service aces with 18. Sophie Miller had a team high 36 assists.
Du Quoin (5-0) will be challenged on Thursday when they travel to Murphysboro to take on another unbeaten squad.
