(Urbana, Ill.) - Du Quoin senior Paxton Higgerson is the Sectional champion in the Boys 200-yard Individual Medley, dominating the race by almost three seconds and in the process qualifying for the State Finals on February 23 and 24 in Evanston.
Higgerson's time of 1:57.64 was good enough to qualify for State on its own, even if he hadn't beaten second. The State qualifying requirement is 1:57.77. Higgerson also placed third at the Sectional in the Boys 100 Yard Freestyle, where Indian teammate Payton Wood was ninth.
Wood also placed fourth in the Boys 200 Yard Freestyle, and another DHS swimmer, Rylan Ragar, was third in the Boys 500 Yard Freestyle. The three Du Quoin swimmers performed so well that the Indians placed eighth out of fifteen Sectional teams.
