(Vergennes, Ill.) - Du Quoin's Elizabeth Bird finished with 13 of the Lady Indians' 24 kills as they swept Tuesday's match with Elverado, 25-12, 25-20 at Vergennes.
"We battled with them, they were just the better team," said EHS head coach Donette Wheatley. "The Bird girl has a thunderous hit. She probably hits harder than anyone we have faced."
"Our girls fought hard, and being able to hang with them says a lot about our team. Offensively, we are mishitting way too many. We have people who can hammer the ball too if we place the ball where it needs to be. I'm proud of our effort."
Jessica Elson, Emma Funk and Jessica Sarensen each had 3 kills for the Lady Falcons. Morgan Bernardini led EHS in digs with 7, and Emma Yates topped assists with 7. Du Quoin was led in digs by Braylyn Funk with 7.
The Lady Indians also defeated the Lady Falcons in the junior varsity match, 25-12, 25-8.
